August 2010
Thank you for your interest in becoming a tutor with the Dyslexia Tutoring Program. Our program provides free screening and remedial tutoring for low-income adults and children throughout Maryland with dyslexia and other language based learning differences.
Our course is offered free of charge to those who commit to 60 hours of tutoring. The tutor and the student decide upon the actual tutoring schedule. We do suggest that tutors meet with their students at least once a week, for 1 to 1 ½ hour sessions. Tutoring can take place at our office or at other public facilities.
We are pleased to offer the following class(es)*:

Training courses typically consist of 8 or 9 consecutive 2 ½ hour classes. The Dyslexia Tutoring Program will supply the tutoring and training materials for all tutors. Your instructor will inform you of any additional materials needed. We do ask that you please bring a pen and paper for note taking on the first day of class.
After receiving your completed application, all volunteers must come to our office for a brief interview with the Education Coordinator prior to the first scheduled day of training. Potential tutors will also need to provide a list of references and will be subject to a criminal background check.
If you have any questions please feel free to call us at 410.889.5487. We would like to thank you for your interest and for deciding to give our students your time and the gift of literacy!
Warm Regards,
Nicole D. Johnson
